With the Wickenburg elections finally completed, it is time to look at alternatives to how the town council is elected. Currently, all town council members are elected from the town as a whole. In this way certain interests can try to dominate an election by running a slate of candidates. It happened this past election with two slates, a community activitist slate and a chamber of commerce slate. Another way to elect the officials would be to divide the town into 6 districts and each district would elect a council member. The mayor would be elected with a vote in all the districts. This district type of election would make it harder for any one group to dominate the election with the resulting of a stack town council representing a narrow point of view and disenfranchising a lot of the community.
