Wickenburg Bypass

The interim bypass to cost more than 35 million dollars. That is what the local paper estimates the cost of the bypass(interim traffic improvement plann) will be. However, that does not include the cost of the improvements to US 93 from the junction of the interim to the point where the ultimate bypass will connect on US 93, about milepost 184 or thereabout. With the added cost of building a four lane highway with 5 roundabouts ( yes 5 roundabouts) this project is going to cost over 100 million dollars. The past ADOT Prescott engineer estimated that two lanes of the ultimate bypass could be build for $77 million dollars. Add on the inflated costs and that would be around $100 million dollars. Admittedly, it would only be two lanes, BUT it would be the start of solving the traffic problem that currently exists in downtown Wickenburg. The interim project will not solve the real problem. It is only moving the problem to the east and west of town. The problem still exists along US 93 from Rincon Road toward Kingman. What were our public officials and town chamber thinking when they supported this ridulous interim with 5 roundabouts. Yes 5 roundabouts- count them. 1) western junction of interim; 2) Rincon Road; 3) Vulture Mine Road; 4) Scenic Loop Drive 5) entrance to Wickenburg Ranch; 5) US 93 and US 89 Junction. It is time for the people to stand up against this interim disaster. It does not solve the traffic problem. It delays the ultimate bypass and ultimate solution farther into the future. It will be ineffective by the time it is built. It is a mistake. The people need to stand up to the political leadership (?) of the town and the chamber and demand that the white elephant be dropped and that the ultimate solution and ultimate bypass be started. Only then will downtown Wickenburg be able to redevelop. Write ADD+OT, Write the Governor, Write anyone you think can influnce ADOT to change their minds.
