ACCIDENT KILLS TWO AT 89-93 JUNCTION Wickenburg, AZ:(3/1/08) This was a three vehicle collision (full size transport bus and two passenger cars), with fatal and serious injuries that occurred around 2:30 PM Friday on US93 at the Junction with State Route 71 and State Route 89, next to Wickenburg Ranch. An Oldsmobile passenger vehicle was southbound on State Route 89 approaching the Junction when it failed to stop at the stop sign and drove into a Ford station wagon that was northbound on US93 and at some point into the bus that was northbound on US93. There are two confirmed fatalities and three listed as seriously injured. One of the two fatalities was declared deceased on the scene, the other was declared deceased at the hospital. The injured were all transported to area hospitals.
There was one person, the driver in the Oldsmobile and their were four occupants in the Ford. There were no reported injuries to any passengers on the bus. There may have been 44 to 46 passengers on the bus consisting of the athletic team players, coaches and parents.
The southbound lanes of travel for US93 remained open. The northbound lanes of travel for US93 were re-routed to SR89 for about 20 miles and then back down to US93. The roadway was reopened by 6:15 PM.
